Eruptive Cycle and Bubble Trap of Strokkur Geyser, Iceland

چکیده

The eruption frequency of geysers can be studied easily on the surface. However, details internal structure including possible water and gas filled chambers feeding eruptions driving mechanisms often remain elusive. We used a multidisciplinary network seismometers, video cameras, pressure sensors one tiltmeter to study eruptive cycle, structure, cycle Strokkur geyser in June 2018. An at always consists four phases: (1) Eruption, (2) post-eruptive conduit refilling, (3) filling bubble trap, (4) regular collapse shallow depth conduit. For typical single 19 ± 4 collapses occur Phase 3 8 2 mean spacing 1.52 0.29 24.5 5.9 s, respectively. These release latent heat fluid trap (Phase 3) later 4). latter eventually reaches thermodynamic conditions for an eruption. Single sextuple have similar spacings between are likely fed from same 23.7 4.4 m depth, 13–23 west duration recharging phase linearly increases due larger water, loss system. Our tremor data provides documented evidence beneath pool geyser.

Draft Genome Sequence of Chloroflexus sp. Strain isl-2, a Thermophilic Filamentous Anoxygenic Phototrophic Bacterium Isolated from the Strokkur Geyser, Iceland

We report here the draft genome sequence of the thermophilic filamentous anoxygenic phototrophic bacterium Chloroflexus sp. strain isl-2, which was isolated from the Strokkur geyser, Iceland, and contains 5,222,563 bp with a G+C content of 59.65%. The annotated genome sequence offers the genetic basis for understanding the strain's ecological role as a phototrophic bacterium within the bacteria...

Volcanism in Iceland in historical time: Volcano types, eruption styles and eruptive history

The large-scale volcanic lineaments in Iceland are an axial zone, which is delineated by the Reykjanes, West and North Volcanic Zones (RVZ, WVZ, NVZ) and the East Volcanic Zone (EVZ), which is growing in length by propagation to the southwest through pre-existing crust. These zones are connected across central Iceland by the Mid-Iceland Belt (MIB). Other volcanically active areas are the two in...

An active bubble trap and debubbler for microfluidic systems.

We present a novel, fully integrated microfluidic bubble trap and debubbler. The 2-layer structure, based on a PDMS valve design, utilizes a featured membrane to stop bubble progression through the device. A pneumatic chamber directly above the trap is evacuated, and the bubble is pulled out through the gas-permeable PDMS membrane. Normal device operation, including continuous flow at atmospher...

Electromagnetic bubble generation by half-cycle pulses.

Electromagnetic (EM) bubbles (EMB's), unipolar, super-short, and intense nonoscillating solitary pulses of EM radiation, can be generated in a gas of nonlinear atoms by available half-cycle pulses (HCP's). We investigate how EMB's characteristics (amplitude, length, formation distance, and total number) are controlled by the amplitude and length of originating HCP's. We also predict shocklike w...
